All About TSMC Company

Founded in 1987, TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) is a semiconductor foundry headquartered in Hsinchu, Taiwan. The foundry is the largest of its kind globally, producing more than 100,000 silicon wafers per month. It's part of a more comprehensive network of semiconductor companies known as the Taiwanese Semiconductor Industry , which is the world's largest, with $133.2 billion in 2011 revenues. If that's not impressive enough, TSMC's revenue in 2011 was more than 60 times larger than the global semiconductor industry's revenue in 1987—the company's first full year in business. TSMC was founded in 1987. The company was jointly owned by the Government of Taiwan, the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (a consortium of over 700 companies), and private investors.   In addition to its core of fabs (fabrication plants), TSMC also operates four R&D centres and provides over 50 companies. The company has more than 23,000 workers worldwide....

Biggest Silicon Producing Countries across the World

Silicon is the name of a chemical element with the symbol Si and atomic number 14. A brittle crystalline solid with a blue-grey metallic luster, silicon is a tetravalent metalloid. It is group 14 in the periodic table, carbon above it and germanium, tin, and lead below. It is rather than silicon dioxide (silica). It is a semiconductor and has often been described as the most "abundant material on Earth." Silicon wafers are essential parts of modern technology. To understand silicon wafers, we must first look at how silicon wafers are made . Silicon wafers are made by solidifying a silicon melt in a crucible. The crucible is heated to a temperature of about 1400 °C (2550 °F). Silicon is then added to the crucible. The silicon then melts and flows into the mold. After solidification, the silicon wafers are sliced into thin slices called silicon wafers. The world of technology is all about silicon. If you want to produce technology, you need to have silicon. Without silicon...

Overview of Semiconductor Foundries in the Electronic Industry

As the name implies, a semiconductor foundry is a factory that makes semiconductors. The facilities usually produce microchips that are used in computers and electronic devices. The term foundry is used because the foundries are an essential link in the chain that creates our electronic world. To put it in perspective, a typical device uses about 35 semiconductor chips. The semiconductor industry is responsible for nearly 30 percent of the world's manufacturing. As the demand for cheap and reliable electronics continues to grow, so does the importance of semiconductor foundries. The first semiconductor foundry was opened in the 1950s, which was designed for making germanium transistors. Semiconductor foundries are companies that manufacture silicon chips. (You can think of them as hardware factories that make chips.) The most common semiconductor foundry process is called "deposition," a fancy word for coating and building up layer upon layer of different materials ont...

Things You Should Know about Microcontroller

Microcontrollers are integrated circuits that contain a processor core, memory, and programmable input/output peripherals on a single chip. You need to know about integrated circuit history and its uses. There are many types of microcontrollers, but the basic idea is that each microcontroller is a small computer that works with hardware to control and monitor devices. These devices range from tiny sensors to robots to the computer that you are reading this on. Microcontrollers are used extensively in consumer electronics, but also in industrial and military applications. Microcontrollers are devices that contain a CPU and other "building block" circuits on a single small chip. A microcontroller can perform many of the same functions that a computer does in one small package. Microcontrollers are commonly found in automation, consumer, industrial, and other electronic devices. The first microcontroller is the microprocessor developed by Ted Hoff in 1971. It was a single c...

The Era of Artificial Intelligence

Introduction: If you are someone who are even exposed to the modern technologies in some form, then it is not possible that you haven’t heard the term AI. Artificial Intelligence or AI refers to the machines or software which can act, take decisions just like human but speedily and efficiently, otherwise what would be the difference. Artificial Intelligence is not only limited to robots, as many people have such misconceptions. The introduction of wireless technology, supercomputing which enabled to create complex algorithms, advanced computer chips have gifted us with the blessing of Artificial Intelligence. At the time when semiconductor chip who could have thought that those very same chips will be used in our smartphones and smart devices which will enable us to do almost everything. Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Daily Lives: There are many types of artificial intelligence including machine learning, where instead of being programmed what to think, machines can o...

Supply Chain Mechanism in Semiconductor Industry

Image
What is Supply Chain? Supply chain management is the management of flow of goods and services from the procurement of raw material to producing the final product. Supply chain is an important mechanism in almost every industry as it determines the competitive advantage of a company over its competitors. Supply chain management also plays a key role in the semiconductor industry. Semiconductors are a key component for almost every electronic and digital product in today’s modern era. Thus optimum supply chain for semiconductors is a need of today. Not only proper supply chain mechanism is needed for semiconductors but also for the semiconductor machine as these machines play a key role in the manufacturing, assembling and testing of semiconductor chips.   Nature of Logistics in Semiconductor Industry: Very few industries face such complex issues in logistics management which are faced by the semiconductor industry. As semiconductors are quite fragile in nature and their effi...

The Domination of American Companies in Various Industries

Image
It is said that the 16 th , 17 th , and 18 th century belonged to European countries specially U.K. As European countries dominated the many countries and established colonies, their companies and industries flourished. But post world war, the dynamics changed. As more and more countries gained freedom from European countries, the power and dominance fall. This power was shifted toward the western part of the world. USA became the global superpower in 20 th century and is still dominating the 21 st century. Though since past couple of decades American companies are getting tough competition from Asian companies. Still, in majority of the industries, American companies are still dominating the market. There are many such industries in which american companies have established their dominance. Whether it is E-Commerce companies, Tech companies, Electronic Goods companies, or Semiconductor companies in USA , they are dominating their respective industries. Here we will discuss abou...
